Can we just do a total Nintendo symphonic performance? Super Mario Bros, Metroid, etc.

Show tunes tonight here in Kalispell Montana. My wife plays bass. Might need a guest trumpet player one of these days.

That would be awesome. We did a Pokémon show earlier this season. Good show, but the Zelda music is better.

You should, even if you don’t know the game. The music is excellent.

Both. The orchestra is on stage, and they are projecting scenes from the games on a large screen behind the orchestra.

Music has always been an integral part of the Zelda games, Nintendo goes all out on the soundtracks as a result.

I’ve been waiting. I’m a huge fan of orchestral video game soundtracks but all our symphony ever seems to do is TV and movie themes. I’ve been a big symphony goer my whole life and my grandma and Aunt have been and are presidents of the symphony guild. Big fans. They had a game night once... And I missed it.

I meant to come back to this post and forgot. Here are what I see as highlights from the 2017-2018 classical and pops season.

On the classical side, there is a performance of the Symphony No. 5 by Sergei Prokofiev on December 1/2. The program is titled “Beyond the Score,” and the first half of the performance is all about the piece, how it was composed, the life of Prokofiev, composing in Russia at that time, etc. We did one of these with Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring a couple of years ago, and they had actors and video and musical examples. It was utterly fascinating, and I learned more about RoS from that than I ever did in school. The second half of the program is a performance of the complete symphony. I’m really looking forward to that. It’s one of my favorite symphonies.

March 23/24 features the Organ Symphony by Camile Saint-Saens. Though not a concerto for organ, it does feature the organ heavily in two of the four movements. The soloist is the flamboyant Cameron Carpenter, who is sort of the Liberace of the organ. He has been known to perform in bare feet. It’s a great symphony, and one of the best-known by Saint-Saens. written when he was at the height of his popularity and compositional prowess.

April 13/14 features Beethoven’s 5th symphony. It’s a famous old warhorse, and I’m absolutely sick of performing it, but it’s always a crowd pleaser.

The Pops season looks like a lot of fun.

On October 20 we are doing a performance of the score to Fantasia while accompanying the film. This will likely sell out. February 9 will have a similar performance of Jurassic Park , where they screen the film and we provide the music. I expect this to sell out, too.

We’re also doing a hits of the 80s concert (December 29/30) and a Sinatra/Rat Pack show (January 1/2).

If you like the movie soundtrack thing, the ASO is teaming with the Long Center and the Performing Arts Center at UT to do the music for Star Wars Ep. IV (Long Center, October 11/12) and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (PAC, September 23/24). This is the start of a project to perform the music all the SW and HP movies. I am almost certain both of these will sell out.

There you go! I hope to see you at the hall. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I heard. Might be time to remedy that.

A Link To the Past is the first one I played, and recently I really enjoyed Twilight Princess. Just starting into Breath of the Wild with my son.
